Address Change in RC & DL Online - Update Address

When you shift to a new address, it is important to update your address in both your vehicle Registration Certificate (RC) and Driving License (DL). This ensures your documents are valid and you don't face issues during police verification or government formalities.

This guide explains the complete process to change address in RC and DL through the Parivahan portal online.

Part 1: Address Change in RC (Vehicle Registration)

Online Process for RC Address Change

1. Visit parivahan.gov.in
2. Select your state from dropdown menu
3. Click on "Online Services" → "Vehicle Related Services"
4. Select "Change of Address in RC"
5. Enter vehicle registration number
6. Enter last 5 digits of chassis number
7. Verify OTP on registered mobile
8. Fill new address details
9. Upload required documents:
   • Address proof (PDF, max 1MB)
   • Self-declaration form
   • Passport photo
10. Pay fees online
11. Book RTO appointment slot
12. Download application receipt

After Online Application

1. Visit RTO on appointment date
2. Carry original documents for verification
3. RTO officer verifies documents
4. Get acknowledgment receipt
5. New RC with updated address dispatched within 7-15 days

Address Change Within Same RTO

If your new address is within the same RTO jurisdiction:

• Simple address update process
• No NOC required
• Can be done completely online
• New RC/DL dispatched to new address
• Processing time: 7-15 days

Address Change to Different RTO (Same State)

If moving to different district within same state:

• Apply for address change
• Jurisdiction transfer to new RTO
• No NOC required in most states
• New RC/DL issued by new RTO
• Processing time: 15-30 days

Address Change to Different State

Moving to a different state requires:

1. For RC:
   • Get NOC from old state RTO
   • Apply for re-registration in new state
   • Pay road tax in new state
   • Get new registration with new state code
2. For DL:
   • Apply for address change in new state
   • DL remains valid but address updated
   • No need for new DL test

Using Aadhaar for Address Update

If your Aadhaar is updated with new address:

1. First update address in Aadhaar at UIDAI
2. Use updated Aadhaar as address proof
3. Select "Aadhaar Based Authentication" option
4. Address fetched directly from Aadhaar

For RC:

1. Visit parivahan.gov.in
2. Go to "Online Services" → "Application Status"
3. Enter application number
4. View current status

For DL:
